A monthly in depth look at the ECWA performers by Josh Martin
by Josh Martin
He is one half of the longest reigning tag team champions in ECWA history. His name is Billy Bax and he is part of the promotion's current Tag Team Champions (along with Rob Eckos) known as "The Valedictorians). They are approaching 2-1/2 years as champions and under the management of Carlton P. Hightower, they are unstoppable.
Billy Bax joined the ECWA in January 2001 and was knocked out in his debut match against Crowbar (Devon Storm). In his early days with the ECWA he not only wrestled Devon Storm, but took on Mike Kruel, and then formed a tag team with Rob Eckos. After seeing they had great chemistry as a tag team, they hired Carlton P. Hightower as their manager and the rest is history!
Billy Bax is the larger of the two Valedictorians and they rely on his power and strength. On the surface he may come across as a bit slow, but in the ring, he is anything but slow and blends his power with great technical skills to add to the Valedictorians victories.
Bax has been a mainstay on the ECWA roster for 5 years and while the fans may not like this young competitor.they sure respect him and his accomplishments. He has a lot of respect from his peers in the locker room as well.
Recently I had an opportunity to sit down and pose some questions to Billy Bax. I hope you enjoy.

How long have you been in wrestling? 5 years
What made you want to get into wrestling? I would always go to my cousins house on Saturdays when I was younger and would watch with them. I always wanted to be a superstar. I started wrestling in high school and
was did really good until I blew my knee out my senior year. It was then I thought I'd try doing pro wrestling since I couldn't wrestle in College
When did you join the ECWA? January 2001
How did you joining the ECWA come about? ? My father lived in Delaware so i decided to move in with him. I got a job at a local sandwich shop where E.S. Easton had worked at as well. He would always tell Jim I was interested in working there but i was too nervous to say anything myself. I would always go to ECWA's shows and finally decided to talk to Jim Kettner after one of them. I met Jim for dinner one night and talked wrestling for a few hours and started shortly after that.
What do you like about the ECWA? What's not to like. It's run professionally, it's one of the most respected independents in the country, and the guys in the locker room are like family.
What do you think about the ECWA fans? They're very supportive and loyal to the product we put in front of them. They're not too bad even though they may think I'm the dumb Valedictorian.
What have been your favorite ECWA moments? Hands down winning the ECWA tag championship with Eckos.
How did the Billy Bax & Valedictorians characters come about? The Valedictorians was an idea of Jim Kettner's. Me and Eckos just started tagging and he noticed we had great chemistry together but just needed character to it. He decided to put Hightower with us and we've been together for over 3 years now and tag champs for almost 2 1/2 years.
What are the Billy Bax & Valedictorian characters all about? The Valedictorians are pretty much young and immature pranksters who think they know it all. That's when the caps and gowns are on but when they come off the fun stops and Billy Bax and Rob Eckos are solid technical wrestlers determined to win at any cost even if it means cheating a little.
Your thoughts on the current state of the wrestling business? Right now it's slow I think due to the lack of mainstream exposure wrestling is getting now. You can only hope it rebounds and cycles again to how it was in the mid to late 90's
